You buried the lede here, Frances, and what a delightful bit of puppy news! A ways north of you, winter hasn't relaxed its grip but the light has changed, and next weekend Daylight Saving Time delivers another daylight hour in the evening, a pleasure. Those are big home-renovation projects, good luck! And you have a reward at the end. Eager to meet him!

Thank you, KC/Duchesse. As you know, timing is everything and often, it's beyond our control. Fingers crossed.

Oh my goodness I’m so glad you haven’t mastered shrinking (never shrink dear Frances please) because that picture of your new furry friend was just glorious. What a gorgeous little soul. Do you have a name lined up? I hope the renovations go smoothly and your house is cosier as a result. Very wise staying out of the way. The flowers are beginning to burst forth in southern England and are most joyful. I hope the snow clears for you soon xxx

Hello, hello, Dear Friend. I chuckle reading your comment on shrinking…indeed I have… 2 ½ inches, a small price to pay for being an old bat.

I now have an embarrassment of riches re wire-hair dachshunds…the one pictured already has a name…Link, short for Lincoln of someone or other. I never change the names of dogs who are adult so he’ll stay Link. That breeder has a friend with a 3 yo female named Pru as well as a 1 yo male who will need to be ‘shown’ and then sire a few litters. Both women understand my ideal time to adopt is 2 ½ months away d/t construction and we’ve agreed to see where we are at that time. I just have to be patient. At least the snow will be gone by the time a furry friend is here.

Smell some flowers for me, please, and enjoy your early spring weather.

Wonderful puppy news and picture! I'm in the camp of those mostly just getting through winter, and trying (mostly without success) to carve out time for writing. I did some of that yesterday and enjoyed it very much. In this area spring is typically a season of lurching between winter and summer; we can go from the 30s one day to the 80s the next, which will start next week. I enjoyed reading what you are watching and reading.

Hi, Elizabeth. Lurching into spring is so typical. I've tried to reframe it as the loosening of winter's grip but after more snow, ice, and sleet, it's more like wishful thinking. Ah well, we flip the clocks tomorrow night so there's that.

I've been trying to write a post for Sunday but am too preoccupied by the war in Iran. It's a time of great fear for most everyone. I still recommend 'Tehran.'

Those wire hair dachshunds are something else.

Great stuff Frances! I will have to check out. “Fashion Neurosis!” We are having spring-like weather already in Louisiana and I’m grateful for that. February is my birthday month but even I was ready to move on to March!

Hi, Lisa. Happy belated birthday!! I hope it was sweet, literally and figuratively. There's a stretch to go before anything resembling spring arrives tho when the sun is shinning, the push-pull between the seasons is a preview.

Hope you enjoy FN.

Ah yes, birding and gardening.... It is bitterly cold here, and the essential activities of the day involve wading through deep snow to fill feeders and replenish suet. I never tire of watching winter birds at the many feeders in the garden, and refills of wild bird seed are already in progress. Indoors, there is always a good book and a mug of tea close at hand, and there are gardening catalogues on almost every surface in the house. Plans are already afoot to expand my bee, herb and wildflower gardens and perhaps add a few more roses.

You garden expansion plans sound wonderful. This is the time of head in spring and feet in deep snow but we're on our way. Today I made Finnish Salmon Soup/Lohikeitto for probably the last time and then on to more asparagus, endive wrapped in ham and baked in a white sauce and lighter fare.

As always, thank you for your comments.

Kudos on your furry friend - precious- such fun and delight - can’t wait to learn his name

Frances Ray's avatar

Hi, Victoria. Isn’t that little guy something else. He already has a name…Link, short for Lincoln of such-and-such….and I don’t want to change his name b/c he’s already 1 yo. There is a 3 yo female named Pru from another breeder as well as a 1 yo male who needs to be shown and then sire puppies (hmm ,maybe not the best situation). Everyone agrees that mid to late May is a realistic time for the renovations to be done and a new pup to arrive so we’ll see what will be the final decision at that time.

I'll check out Fashion Neurosis. Its content sounds, from your description, not at all what I'd expect from reading the title! I love these kinds of conversations. Big fan of In Treatment on TV. -Kate
