Ha. You're doing better than me. I am complaining about summer all the time. More about the flies and the stagnant water and the ticks creeping out of the woods--than the heat but complaining nonetheless. Even though I should just simply be grateful that we are not in a flood zone.
The valley town I used to live in was underwater in the summer of 1972 and it's an awful thing, made more awful when so many lives are lost like they were in Texas.
As always, I admire your positivity. And your photography! The window box in particular is gorgeous. I hope you are able to get your pain under control soon and really appreciate your lovely articles!
Hi, dear Friend. I grumble to myself much of the time....that running commentary that no one really wants to hear.
Thank you for your comment about my photography. These days I just take photos with the phone on the fly.
I saw the spine specialist today. What a guy...just up my alley...a former dancer turned MD, lots of turquoise jewelry, a shirt with a tropical print and long gray hair in a bun. Nearly my age, too. That's my type. Ha! Unfortunately I deviated and married a free spirit who morphed into a real corporate being. Anyway, I think he will get me on the right track.
Love Andrew Cotter’s stuff! Amazing mountain climber too.
Just back from a few days by the sea. Incredibly - unbearably - hot we forgot looking daft at our age playing in waves. We just shrieked and threw ourselves in and laughed. A lot. It. Was. Glorious. 😊
Your photos are beautiful! How do I stay cool? AC! I'm not proud of it, but without AC in my house and car I would move out of this area. Right now, the humidity is 78 percent and the dew point 74 degrees F. Temperature 85 F. My next door neighbor, who is around your age, survives with only fans. I'm not that strong. I'm glad you like your spine doctor, and I wish you all the best with that. I love the video!
The Ergodyne bandana or similar really helps if you have to be outdoors in torrid heat!
I hope traction is indicated for you and helps. It is a physio technique that has been subsumed by more high tech treatments but it is so valuable and accessible.
As for cooking, I love to make a grand ( or just medium) aioli. Or a tomato tart served room temperature. Those fizzy flavoured waters are nice with those, or a glass of rosé.
Ah, yes...a tomato tart...mmm. I'll make one this week now that local tomatoes are coming in, maybe later today before the next heat dome settles in tomorrow and for the rest of the week. Thank you for the Ergodyne bandana suggestion. When I had the dog, I used a small fan that wrapped around the neck but this seems as good and no batteries. As always, thank you for your helpful comments.
It is too hot for anything, my friend. Beau and I took a long walk at sunrise and are now staying indoors with lots of cool water (him) and homemade iced tea, iced coffee and lemonade (me). In recent nights, the garden has been full of fireflies, something we have not seen in years. Stay cool and happy reading!
Can you let me know how things go with your specialist? I am in the same situation and weary of constant pain.
Yes, Cate, I'll tell you the results of the first visit to the physiatrist. I'm certain the first step will be another MRI, then I'm guessing spinal injections which I'm very willing to do.
Glad you are taking good care of yourself. The heat is pretty awful and there probably not much more to be said about it. I stay inside with the air conditioner, cook very little, read, watch the news, and talk on the phone to one friend in particlar. There is also household chores to be done. I dream about whether I want to take a vacation and where would I go, however nothing excites me. I do most of my shopping online. Days, weeks, and months pass and here we are mid- July. Fall and winter will come and the weather improves and so does my mood.
I can only imagine how taxing your relentless heat is. We are so fortunate to live in a country where a/c is the norm. I was just reading how across Europe, at most 20 % of households have it. I have no interest in shopping in person for anything except food. Right now, local corn is coming in and when I can, visiting farm stands is a real pleasure. I too am looking forward to fall and winter.

The new doctor sounds fascinating. I can see him as a character in a story!

I discovered Olive and Mabel (and Andrew) during Covid. I love them and always look forward to a new video.
IMHO, most of us become freer by the sea and that's a good thing!
Thanks so much for your comment.

Meanwhile, stay cool and quiet, too.
