Frances, you write so well! I am always amazed at not only your writing abilities but your vast interests and knowledge. The theme of letting go is a hard one for me. I have way too many clothes, books, recipes, expectations, regrets, and on and on I could go. I make steps of progress of letting go in each of these area and then fall backwards. So, recently I have just decided that I will do the best I can and I will enjoy the moment. This just might be the best I can do and the letting go is in that acceptance! Amen!

Good Morning, Linda. I hope things are starting cool in Florida. Here it will be 83 degrees and I'm going to be back in summer clothes for a happy celebration with friends who are now into their 80's too. I am so delighted to have newer friends at this time of life, having lost close friends to death these past two years. That one is the hardest of the letting goes.

Yes, an attitude of acceptance of falling back is so important toward ourselves ...and others. Something I hadn't mentioned is letting go of the expectation that if only I would push myself, I could prevent declines in health. That one is definitely a work in progress. Then again, we're all a work in progress.

Hi, Maria. I'm reminded that in the exhortations to extend kindness to others, we just might have to start with ourselves.

I save recipes on Pinterest all the time! And almost never go back to them! When I want a recipe for, say, pumpkin cookies, I search on Pinterest, save the one I want to use, and sometimes print it out to join my chaotic recipe notebook. Frances, your question, "What have you let go and what has been held?" Wow, what a thoughtful transition from your broad and detailed reflection on Buddhist religion and your intimate study of relationships, especially friendships. So much to think on here, and I might do some reflecting in a post to come.

Pinterest and recipes...hah! I have yet to use one I saved there because of course, I have saved it in my NY Times Recipe Box, too.

I appreciate your reflection on the post...maybe there was too much for some people because relative to what I wrote on Elizabeth Gilbert, not many readers responded. As I've said before, I write for comments and not number of subscribers. Then again expectation is the thief of joy...

Here it is Friday and I'm totally clueless about what to write for Sunday. May I'll just play in the falling leaves.

Seems like I’ve let go of posting my back stories on Substack. I thought a weekly deadline would help structure my writing as well as my routine but apparently returning to structure isn’t as satisfying as I’d imagined. My stories have already been written for family and the editing for public is just plain ole work! No purpose there. That’s not to say I won’t use the platform in some manner. There are poems, nature sketching and photography which fit well into October’s needs… not to mention just observing.

Hi, Karen. I've enjoyed your back stories and now look forward to the photography, poetry and sketching. I consider substacks to be a labor of love that far exceed any monetary gain, if one even chooses to go that route.

Thank you so much for being here and commenting.
